First there was a signature fragrance. Then came the fragrance wardrobe—now our supercharged smell cycle has turned up the ante.
Introducing: Scent Stacking: a marvellous middle ground which combines the allure of a personal scent with the complicated notes of a fragrance wardrobe.
Intrigued? Here’s everything you need to know.
What Is Scent Stacking
Scent stacking involves wearing multiple fragrances at once to create a new deeper, more complicated scent.
This doesn’t only mean mixing a few drops of your favourite perfume with another complimentary perfume. Scent stacking brings together body care, haircare, and fragrance to essentially create a complex, deeply personal scent profile at every step of your daily routine.
It not only lets you play ‘professional nose’ and concoct your own scent—it unlocks the advantages of layered evaporation. Different formulas (and notes) fade at different rates. Combining different scent formats helps your scent linger throughout the day for a deeper, sometimes longer-lasting scent.
How To Scent Stack
Start On the Body
Moisturising your body before applying your fragrance has always been essential. For one, moisturised skin holds onto scent molecules better than dry skin, so body care helps boost your fragrance’s longevity. Opting for a deliciously scented body oil or body butter that complements your fragrance helps create a more rounded fragrance profile.
Don’t Forget Hair
Since our hair tends to be much more porous than our skin, it traps fragrance longer—and its natural movement even helps to diffuse the scent. This makes hair a key part of scent stacking. Scented hair products (like oils or masks) help you build your fragrance intensity without overwhelming the skin.
Finally: Fragrance
At this point, you're probably already smelling great. Adding fragrance is the finishing touch to rounding out your stacked scent profile. Naturally, we’d recommend a perfume oil. The formula sits close to the skin and evaporates slowly to help create a long-wearing base for other scents.
How Go-To HQ Scent Stacks
Our scent stack of choice? Oil Over with Into The Woods.
Both share cedarwood and patchouli in their scent profile, and layering the two helps boost the longevity. Meanwhile, Oil Over’s bergamot adds brightness and lift which balances the deeper notes of rum, amber, and musk from the perfume oil.
For a sophisticated, woody, balanced scent—reminiscent of warm skin and worn leather.
